Ontario Builds More Inclusive Communities
$59,200 to support active living for people of all abilities in Buckhorn
Buckhorn -Today Member of Provincial Parliament, Dave Smith announced $59,200 to improve accessibility and support people of all ages and abilities at the Buckhorn Community Centre.
“Those with disabilities and limited mobility are often faced with obstacles or unwelcoming environments when they try to use outdoor spaces,” said Dave Smith Member of Parliament for Peterborough-Kawartha. “This grant will allow individuals to have access to the Buckhorn Community Centre’s Festival Park that will enable them to enjoy activities with their friends and families for years to come.” MPP Dave Smith added.
The Inclusive Community Grant provides funding of up to $60,000 for projects of all ages and abilities live healthy, active and independent lives.
“Inclusive community grants remove barriers for people of all abilities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “Inclusive Community Grants prevent social isolation and create new opportunities for everyone to stay active and healthy.”
Since the Inclusive Community Grants Program was created in 2020, Ontario has provided over $5 million to support 107 projects promoting inclusivity and accessibility across the province.
“The Buckhorn Community Centre has received funding to improve outdoor accessibility and inclusivity. Visitors can look forward to new walkways, seating, gardens, and raised beds, enhancing the BCC’s ability to offer community-focused programs and events.” Said Molly Kriksic, Volunteer Board of Directors for the Buckhorn Community Centre.
